- Chris leapt onto comp.sys.amiga.hardware and mumbled something about Remove
- internal floppy A1200
-
- AKU> A1200. It's light is always on, and it can't be used.
- AKU> Sometimes my Workbench displays four floppy-drives, although
- AKU> I have only one external one. Ie. DF0, DF1, DF2 and DF3...
-
- I had a problem kind of like this - the early startup menu would state that
- the drives available were df0:, 1:, 2: and 3:, but it would refuse to read
- disks from either the internel or external drive.
-
- My solution wasn't a very technical one - I cursed and hit the computer till
- one day it worked. I think it might have been a power problem, as at the time
- I was running the computer off a 200W supply for the drives, and the C= brick
- for the motherboard. Conflicting supplies you see.
-
- AKU> My question:
- AKU> Since I need to use my Amiga, and can't send it off to be repaired, is
- AKU> it possible to disconnect this drive from the restt of the system?
-
- AKU> Can I just disconnect a lead, or is it more complicated?
-
- AKU> Since I'm no HW hacker, could it be that it's the controller that's bad?
-
- Just open the case, rip the sheilding off and take the ribbon cable and the
- 4-pin power connector off, and then there is one screw on a bracket at the
- front, and 2 on the back of the case, underneath. You could try seeing if an
- external drive works, if not there is a good chance that it is the
- controller. Find a friendly soldering-wizard, and buy a new controller.
